ERS team members Aarynn Carter and Sasha Hinkley have been selected to host one of 15 local workshops across Europe following their attendance at the Madrid JWST Master Class in February 2020. This workshop will be held at the University of Exeter from March 2nd to March 4th, with the first two days focused on general JWST information and proposal planning and the final day focused on exoplanet proposal planning.
A complete program has been posted above, with a brief description below.
Day 1 and 2 - General Observing with JWST- JWST Mission Status and the Cycle 1 Call for Proposals.
- Full instrument overviews of NIRCam, MIRI, NIRISS and NIRSpec.
- Hands on sessions with a variety of JWST proposal tools such as the ETC and APT.
- Science observing modes: Imaging, Coronagraphy, Wide-Field Slitless Spectroscopy, Single-Object Slitless Spectroscopy, IFU Spectroscopy, Multi-Object Spectroscopy, Time-Series Observations (final selection will be made based on attendee interest).
- Available simulation tools for exoplanet specific JWST observations both through transit/emission spectroscopy.
- Hands on sessions with these simulation tools, mimicking the JWST proposal process from initial idea to submission.
